Capitol Christmas Tree ~ The Big Tree

Arizona has been given the honor of providing the 2009 Capitol Christmas Tree for the west front lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The search is currently on in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona for the perfect 65-foot tree. Once the Superintendent of the Capitol Grounds selects the tree this July, it will be cut, loaded, covered and prepped for travel November.

In mid-November, the tree will be toured accross the state of Arizona before heading east to the U.S. Capitol. In late November, the tree will be delivered to the U.S. Capitol, where it will be lowered into 5-foot deep hole, strung with lights, and decorated with thousands of handcrafted ornaments made by Arizonans.

In December, the Speaker of the House and a lucky Arizona student will light the tree and showcase Arizona’s historical, cultural and natural beauty. Thought the holiday season, the tree will be lit and dusk, where it will be enjoyed by people from across world. Click here to get more information about the ormanents.
